Prepare for the current test
The UCAT has four subtests: Verbal Reasoning, Decision Making, Quantitative Reasoning and Situational Judgement. Practise using the current official UCAT format and scoring information, rather than older five-section materials.
Use practice to diagnose the problem
Start with a small set of questions and review why an answer was difficult. A tutor can help distinguish comprehension, reasoning, calculation and timing issues. Targeted work is more useful when you understand the cause of a mistake.
Build timing gradually
Practise an approach accurately before putting it under a time limit. Keep a short error log and revisit the reasoning behind incorrect answers. As the test approaches, timed sections and full practice tests can help you rehearse decision-making and pacing.
Start with free official resources
The UCAT website provides preparation materials. Paid tutoring is optional support for students who want individual feedback and structure, and cannot guarantee a score or a medical school place.
